Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru - La Garenne - Domaine Bernard-Bonin 2018
The domain
The Domaine Bernard-Bonin is a wine producer based in the town of Meursault, in the Côte de Beaune sub-region, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte d'Or. The majority of the company's vineyards are in the Meursault appellation and produce a number of Meursault Premier Crus. Bernard-Bonin also owns a few plots in the neighboring Puligny-Montrachet appellation.
The estate, which produces only white wines almost exclusively from Chardonnay, was originally known as Michelot Mère et Fille, but was taken over in 1998 by the couple Nicolas Bernard and Véronique Bonin. The couple takes care of seven hectares of vines, including plots in the premier crus of Meursault, Genevrères and Charmes.
They also have two premier crus in Puligny-Montrachet: Les Folatières and La Garenne. Other labels include Meursault Clos du Cromin, Meursault Vieilles Vignes and Initiales B.B. (a White Burgundy).
Bernard-Bonin has adopted biodynamics and the estate has been certified organic since 2015.

Tasting: The remarkable density on the palate reveals perfect maturity of the grapes and high concentration. However, the flavors of citrus and fresh fruit, coupled with a resolutely salty and spicy dimension (we think of ginger and Sichuan pepper), remind us that we are indeed in the terroir of La Garenne: there is there a vibration, a mineral tension, an absolutely remarkable fineness of grain. They will carry the wine far in time. This superb and very rare 1er Cru La Garenne, between fruity density and tapered stony expression, brings together the best of both worlds. |
