Pomerol - Château La Conseillante 2018
The domain
Château La Conseillante is a highly regarded and critically well-received wine estate in the Pomerol district of Bordeaux, known for its great Merlot-based wine. The vineyard is located in the east of the appellation, on the border with Saint-Émilion, and neighboring properties include Château L'Église and Vieux Château Certan in Pomerol, as well as Cheval Blanc in Saint-Émilion to the south. East.
The La Conseillante estate is planted on predominantly clay soil and the vineyard is made up of 80% Merlot, with 20% Cabernet Franc in the more gravelly areas. The blend of the great wine typically reflects these proportions.
La Conseillante has modern winemaking facilities, including a spectacular oval vat room with new epoxy-coated, temperature-controlled concrete vats, varying in size depending on the vineyard plots. The grapes undergo cold maceration for up to four days, followed by alcoholic fermentation with one or two weeks of maceration.
The great wine is aged in barrels for 18 months on average, with 50 to 80% new oak depending on the vintage. Careful racking using bellows pumps and fining with egg white allows the wines to be bottled without filtering them.
In 2007, the château launched its second wine, Duo de Conseillante, made from younger vines and composed of 95% Merlot. It spends 12 months in French oak barrels (50% of which are new barrels) and six months in vats before being bottled.
Château La Conseillante dates back to the mid-18th century, when it was managed by a local businesswoman, Catherine Conseillan, after whom it was named. It has belonged to the Nicolas family since 1871.

Tasting: The elegant structure that supports this wine is impressively restrained. Although the wine is rich in dark fruit and dark tannins, it demonstrates a calm character that allows it to age for the long term. Drink from 2026. |
