Durize sur Gneiss - Steve Bettschen metaPHUSIS 2021
The domain
A nature lover, Steve Bettschen is first and foremost a great wine connoisseur following eleven years spent with a renowned Swiss wine merchant. Called by the land and production, he bought his first vine in 2007.
Surrounded by the best French-speaking winegrowers, he became a winemaker and quickly increased his production, also thanks to the purchase of grapes from friendly winegrowers.
The Phusis range designates the wines from its own vines: Clos du Mormont (La Sarraz / Côtes de l’Orbe / Vaud) – Orny (Côtes de l’Orbe / Vaud) – Sensine (Conthey / Valais)
Its production from the purchase of grapes is called metaPHUSIS.

Grape variety: an old grape variety almost abandoned, Durize still survives in the Fully region (around 7000 m2). It comes from the cross between Roussin (itself a son of Cornalin du Valais, also called Rouge du Pays) and an unknown grape variety (now probably extinct) and is part of the Oriou family. It therefore has affinities with many Aosta Valley grape varieties including Humagne Rouge. |
Tasting: Cherry color, slightly purplish. First nose of moss, stone, pepper. Then come the citrus fruits, the iris bulb and finally the red and black berries. The entry in the mouth is stylish, slender, airy. The substance gains volume while remaining light and the finish combines tannins that are not too tight but very present with great aromatic, fruity freshness and notes of green peel (July 2023). |
