Diplomatico - Botucal Distillery Collection Batch No.2 Barbet Rum
The tradition of sugar cane cultivation in Venezuela dates back to the 15th century. This know-how, combined with favorable conditions such as climate and soil, gives the rum its particular characteristics and aromas. Diplomatico Ron is produced by Destilerias Unidas, a Venezuelan conglomerate of different producers. Most stills are made of copper and made in England. For the first two issues of the special edition Diplomatico Distillery Collection, we wanted to highlight the taste profile of two other stills and we present here blended rums from a Canadian batch kettle filled with fermented sugar cane juice ( No1) and a French copper barbet column (No2) powered by molasses. The two stills were installed in 1959 at the La Miel hacienda and have been used since then for part of the diplomaticos (the batch kettle was previously used for the production of American whiskey). The resulting distillation product then ages further in oak barrels before being bottled.
