Rum Nation Caroni 1999
The Rum Nation Caroni 1999 was bottled in 2015. The Caroni Distillery has been closed for quite a while, but the number of independently bottled rums shows no signs of slowing down. Rum Nation must also be one of the independent bottlers who have a large stock or access to a stock of Caroni barrels.
Rum Nation Caroni 1999 was aged in Trinidad for 11 years in American oak barrels, then 4 years in the United Kingdom. It was then shipped to Piedmont, Italy for a 12 month finishing period. These barrels had previously contained Spanish brandy and sherry. The hydrometer reveals the presence of 15 g/L of additives, which means that these barrels were perhaps a little "wet". Information provided directly by Rum Nation indicates 9.43 g/l of sugar. Regardless, the rum was "dosed" in one way or another.
