Pauillac - Château Pontet-Canet 2007 3L

The domain

A direct neighbor of Mouton-Rothschild , Pontet-Canet benefits from a magnificent terroir that has contributed enormously to its reputation. The most striking thing in this area is its meteoric rise as well as the biodynamic shift undertaken, not without risk, in a region where "eco-viticulture" has not yet completely become part of the culture. In the space of 10 years, and thanks to Alfred Tesseron the owner and Jean-Michel Comme the manager, Pontet-Canet has become the most sought-after brand in the Médoc. A model of success that will not fail to serve as an example!

In the renovated cellars, the greatest care is taken in the production of the wine. For Château Pontet-Canet, a great wine results from understanding the vine and revealing the terroir in its purest character. From vatting to aging, we let nature take its course, particularly with fermentations on native yeasts. For aging, the wine is master of time because it depends on the tasting whether it will extend or not. Pontet-Canet wines are aged partly in terracotta amphorae, the rest being aged in barrels mainly of several wines. The amphoras are also partly made with components from the soil of Pontet-Canet. Some contain crushed limestone, others whole gravel pebbles. The wine aged in these amphoras then maintains a form of contact with the terroir of Pontet-Canet. Merlot wines will preferably go into amphorae containing limestone. The others will be intended for Cabernet Sauvignon.
