Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru - Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg 2021
The domain
Thanks to Jacqueline, who so courageously took over after Georges' death, the estate was able to be passed down from father to daughter and thus remain in the family which settled in Vosne-Romanée in 1930 and the estate is currently managed by the third generation, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée who share the same passion for vines and wine. [...] Lucie, Marie-Christine's eldest daughter, joined the Domaine in 2017 as did Marion, Marie-Andrée's eldest daughter in 2018. Fanny, her younger sister now manages the guest rooms adjoining the Domaine, Jacqueline's House. Clémence, Marie-Christine's second daughter, is a lawyer in rural law and commercial law in Dijon.
The main objective of Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée is to respect Pinot Noir as much as possible, the grape variety that they are lucky enough to make wine.
The vineyard
With just over 8 hectares and 9 different appellations, the Domaine produces between 20,000 and 30,000 bottles depending on the whims of nature. From the vineyard to bottling, the work is guided by a constant search for perfection. The Domaine has chosen sustainable cultivation, thus promoting the unique expression of each plot.
To cultivate the soil, the Domaine has favored plowing which gives the vines the opportunity to take deep roots and thus draw the best from its terroir. Pruning is carried out during the winter period while the vine is in vegetative rest. From the month of May, the long and meticulous work begins allowing the vines to grow, to flower and to bear the fruits which will be harvested during the month of September.
During the summer, particular attention is paid to the vines. Repeated visits to each vine make it possible to control the vegetation while promoting the optimal development of each plant, always with a concern for quality, to prepare for the year's harvest but also to preserve the growth of the following year.
The harvests are carried out manually.

Tasting: the garnet color is clear. The complex nose offers notes of flowers and red fruits mixed with woody scents. The palate is full, rich and silky, and presents a remarkable balance as well as a very nice persistence. This vintage is a compromise between the power and finesse of Ruchottes-Chambertin and the elegance of Echezeaux, but with the greatest aging potential of the range of these three grands crus. |
