Pessac-Léognan - Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2017
The domain
In 1584, Jean de Pontac, lord of Haut-Brion, donated several acres of meadows and vineyards to the Carmelite Order. Favor, no doubt, has the taste of predestinations: the members of the congregation in fact take their name from Mount Carmel, literally “vineyard of God”. They will watch over the land for nearly two centuries, practicing asceticism and making wine with the same devotion.
Confiscated during the Revolution, the estate was purchased by Léon Colin in 1840. His descendants, the Chantecailles, worked for years to enhance the property, which they added a castle and a landscaped park, before selling it to Patrice Pichet in 2010. From one family to another, the reduced handover process has certainly made it possible to preserve the spirit and magic of the place.
Format : 75 cl |
Country: France |
|
Region: Bordeaux |
Culture: conventional agriculture |
|
Grape varieties: Geenache, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon |
Tasting: Medium ruby red. The nose is open like a barn door, it presents a mixture of black and red fruit aromas, as well as lots of herbal spice, licorice, rose petals and pepper. On the palate, it is fine and fresh, fine tannins coat the delicate fruit, already incredibly seductive, with an excellent balance of elements, nothing predominates, everything is in its place. The finish is long, fresh, finely spicy and rather on red fruits. An antithesis of this vintage rather “classified weak”. |
