Barbaresco Riserva - Sottimano 2004
The domain
The Sottimano family embodies the best of Piedmont’s peasant winemaking tradition. She continues to magnify the nobility of the Nebbiolo grape variety to express all the complexity and natural elegance of the best Barbaresco terroirs. The vines are cultivated as naturally as possible. Andrea learned a lot from her father Rino, who graduated in oenology at the end of the 1960s, who very early on had the conviction that great respect for the soil and minimum intervention would be essential principles to achieve the highest quality in its wines.
The Sottimano estate is, in Barbaresco, the one where you can taste the most single-plot wines: no less than five different expressions, which show the complexity of these terroirs. To magnify this diversity, the estate has naturally turned to the cleanest possible viticulture, banning pesticides and herbicides for more than 25 years, respecting the ecosystem as much as possible. Patiently acquired by Rino Sottimano since the 1970s, the estate's vineyard covers 18 hectares, entirely located in the three main towns of the Barbaresco appellation, namely Neive, Treiso and Barbaresco. The vines are old: with the exception of Basarin, all Nebbiolo vines are over 40 years old.

Tasting: This is THE great vintage of the estate, produced only during very great vintages. The vines are 60 years old on average and produce a complex wine, with aromatic notes of mint and liquorice. On the palate this wine has a beautiful tannic structure which gives it enormous aging potential. |
